Georgia Declares Emergency for All 159 Counties Ahead of Isaias
Governor Brian P. Kemp issued an updated State of Emergency covering all 159 Georgia counties ahead of Hurricane Isaias, according to a press release from his office. The executive order lets emergency management teams pre-position resources before the storm hits. Kemp also directed the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) to activate its State Operations Center beginning Friday afternoon.
Forecasters expect Isaias to make landfall on the Gulf Coast Friday evening, with effects reaching Georgia through Saturday, including high winds, heavy rain, possible tornadoes, downed trees and power lines, and flooding. GEMA/HS Director Josh Lamb said the agency is coordinating with local, state and federal partners.
The release does not state whether the order includes hours-of-service relief, weight or size waivers, or other trucking-specific provisions. Carriers moving freight through Georgia should check for a separate FMCSA or state DOT emergency declaration if one follows, rather than assume this order covers driving-time rules.
