Georgia Extends Fuel Tax Suspension Through Nov. 30

So whatCarriers & Fleets: Georgia's weight-limit waiver and dyed-diesel penalty suspension run through Nov. 30 at 11:59 p.m.; confirm compliance plans before the order lapses.

Governor Brian Kemp, with Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones and House Speaker Jon Burns, extended Georgia's state of emergency over fuel market volatility through 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 30, according to the governor's office. The order keeps the state motor fuel excise tax suspended at 33.3 cents per gallon for gasoline and 37.3 cents per gallon for diesel, the release said.

The extension also continues earlier executive orders that suspended state weight limits on commercial vehicles and waived penalties for using off-road "dyed" diesel on public roads, the office said. The fuel tax suspension originally took effect Sept. 28.

The governor's office cited AAA data showing Georgia's average gas price at $3.66 a gallon and diesel at $5.72, both well below national averages, as justification for continuing the relief through the Thanksgiving travel period.

The release does not give the executive order's number or a copy of its full text beyond the announcement.
