New Orleans Trucking Owner Charged With False Tax Returns

So whatOwner-operators & Carriers: inflated business deductions on corporate returns can draw IRS and DOJ scrutiny; keep deduction records that can survive an audit.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana said James Perdigao, 64, of New Orleans, was charged on October 26, 2026, in a two-count bill of information for filing false tax returns, in violation of 26 U.S.C. § 7206(1).

According to the office, Perdigao's 2022 individual income tax return failed to report about $79,011.01 in income. Separately, as owner of DC Trucking and Hauling, he filed a 2023 corporate income tax return that included about $235,274 in false deductions.

If convicted, Perdigao faces up to three years in prison, a fine of up to $100,000, up to one year of supervised release after any prison term, and a mandatory $100 special assessment per count. U.S. Attorney David I. Courcelle said a bill of information is only a charge and guilt must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigations handled the case; Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. Klebba is prosecuting.
