ELD Replacement Deadline Hits Today, Five Devices Banned
The grace period FMCSA gave carriers to swap out five revoked electronic logging devices ends today. The agency pulled the devices from its list of registered ELDs on August 6, 2026, after the providers failed to meet the accuracy and reliability requirements in 49 CFR Appendix A to Subpart B of Part 395.
The revoked devices are: MOONLIGHT ELD (model MRS ELD, identifier MRS255) from UZB2USA INC; HGRS ELD (model HGR, identifier HRS169) and HIGHEST ELD (model HIG4ES, identifier HIG385) from HGRS; TRUCKFORD ELD (model TRS, identifier TRS263) from Truckford ELD; and Sparkle ELD (model PT40SIM, identifier SPARK6) from Spark Technologies Inc.
FMCSA said carriers had until October 6, 2026 to drop the devices and install a compliant ELD from the Registered Devices list, or revert to paper logs. Through that date, the agency told safety officials not to cite drivers for "no record of duty status" or "failing to use a registered ELD" solely for running a revoked device, and instead to check paper logs or the ELD display.
Starting today, any carrier still using one of the five devices is operating without an ELD. FMCSA said officials who find a driver on a revoked device should cite 395.8(a)(1) and place the driver out of service under Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance criteria.
