FMCSA Offers $7M for Heavy-Duty Truck Crash Data Study
FMCSA said in a November 3 information bulletin that it is accepting applications for the Crash Causal Factors Program (CCFP) Cooperative Agreement Program. The agency will award up to $7 million total, with no single award exceeding $500,000, to fund data collection for the CCFP Heavy-Duty Truck Study, which examines fatal crashes involving Class 7 or 8 trucks.
Eligible activities include post-crash commercial motor vehicle inspections, crash reconstructions, post-crash investigations, crash data reporting and equipment needed for data collection. FMCSA said all expenses must directly support data collection on qualifying crashes within the study's designated sampling locations.
Only states selected to participate in the study, designated alternate states, and local law enforcement agencies meeting participation requirements may apply. Funding will flow through a cooperative agreement. FMCSA said this is the only funding opportunity that will be offered for the study, and awards are meant to support the full data collection period. The agency is encouraging participating agencies to share the opportunity with grant management teams and data-collection partners.
Findings and anonymized data from the study are intended to help agencies, researchers and safety groups develop crash countermeasures for CMV-involved crashes.
