El Paso Police Inspect Trucks Along Transmountain Road
El Paso Police Department's Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance unit started a multi-agency inspection operation along Transmountain Road on October 21, 2026, the department said in a media advisory. On the first day, officers conducted 11 commercial motor vehicle inspections, found 23 total violations and pulled seven vehicles or drivers out of service for problems serious enough to require repair before continuing. The department reported no injuries during the first day.
Partner agencies include the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Traffic Section for general traffic enforcement, the Texas Department of Public Safety for commercial vehicle enforcement and roving patrols starting October 22, and the El Paso County Constable's Office, Precinct 4, for intermittent traffic enforcement under its STEP grant.
The advisory tells drivers to expect more law enforcement presence on the corridor, possible lane closures while officers work, and to slow down or move over near stopped patrol vehicles as Texas law requires. EPPD said commercial drivers should make sure vehicles, equipment and paperwork are in compliance before traveling the route. The department said it will share updated totals as the operation continues.
