Massachusetts Finds 1,300+ Truck Violations in Regional Sweep

So whatCarriers & Owner-operators: expect continued multi-day, multi-state CVES sweeps targeting logbooks, CDL status and brakes; audit driver qualification files and vehicle maintenance records now.

The Massachusetts State Police said its Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section inspected 577 trucks and commercial vehicles during the Oct. 13-15 operation, a coordinated six-state enforcement push also covering Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. The unit found more than 1,300 serious violations — including suspended operators, false logbooks, driving without a CDL, operating without a required ignition interlock device, controlled substances in a commercial motor vehicle, and brakes out of adjustment. CVES made three arrests and assessed $72,230 in fines, according to the agency's results table.

Across the broader operation, the six participating agencies logged 36 OUI arrests, more than 2,000 speeding violations and nearly 6,000 total traffic citations. In Massachusetts alone, troopers made 3,714 stops and issued more than 1,900 citations, including 418 hands-free law violations and 253 move-over law violations. State Police said the effort doubled enforcement activity statewide compared with the same period last year. Enforcement focused on Interstates 90, 91, 84, 93, 95 and 395, plus Route 146 and other cross-border corridors.
