Indiana Extends Gasoline Tax Suspension Through Dec. 4

So whatFleets & owner-operators: Indiana's gasoline tax suspension runs through Dec. 4; note it covers gasoline, not diesel, so most truck fuel purchases are unaffected.

Governor Mike Braun signed Executive Order 26-35 on November 4, extending Indiana's statewide energy emergency and the suspension of the state's Gasoline Excise Tax and Gasoline Usage Tax by 30 days. The extension covers November 5 through December 4, 2026, and applies in all 92 counties, according to the governor's office.

The energy emergency was first declared August 7, and the governor's office has renewed it multiple times since, each time pairing the emergency declaration with a waiver of the two gasoline taxes. The order does not touch diesel fuel taxes, which fund most heavy-truck operations in the state.

The governor's office has not published the full text of the order beyond its title and effective dates on the executive orders page. It is not yet clear what conditions led to this renewal or whether further extensions are planned once the current one lapses in December.

What's next

  • 2026-12-04: Current extension and tax suspension expire unless Braun issues another order.
  • Watch the governor's executive orders page for a further renewal or a return to normal gasoline tax collection.
